Announcing our Net Zero affordable housing project in partnership with Nicor Gas and Southern Company
Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley is planning some exciting things this year. We are announcing plans to build a 28-home affordable housing project in Carpentersville scheduled to break ground in the Spring of 2025. This new neighborhood, Carter Crossing, was named in honor of President Jimmy Carter. This $12 million project will span four years, with seven new Net Zero homes built annually through 2029.
During phase 1 of this project, the first 13 homes, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley has partnered with Nicor Gas and Southern Company to develop a Smart Neighborhood™. These single-family homes will be equipped with a combination of renewable, electric, and natural gas technologies. The homeowners will enjoy freedom from expensive mortgages and high energy bills, while reducing their carbon footprint. We are working together to impact the affordable housing inventory as well as partner to reduce greenhouse emissions.
Both organizations believe that owning a home is the pathway to strength, stability and independence.
