How to Apply for a Habitat Northern Fox Valley Home
The process can take anywhere from 1 to 2 years to move into a home after the application has been reviewed and the partner family selected.
Step 1: Applicant(s) must attend a mandatory Orientation meeting; application is distributed only at this meeting.

Step 2: Application submitted to Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley Headquarters within 30 days of orientation
Step 3: A file is setup on the applicant(s) and the Habitat of Northern Fox Valley Staff reviews the application for completeness.
Step 4: Applicant(s) is notified of incomplete application or ineligibility; applicant(s) must send in the information that made the application incomplete within requested time limit; or Applications that are complete and appear to meet basic requirements are forwarded to Family Selection Committee.
Step 5: A credit check on the applicant(s) is conducted and reviewed by the Family Selection Committee; applicant(s) is notified of eligibility or sent letter of rejection.
Step 6: Applicant completes 10 hours of “sweat equity” and Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley receives all references in good standing within 30 days of request.
Step 7: The Family Selection Committee conducts a home visit.
Step 8: A second credit check on the applicant(s) may be conducted.
Step 9: Family Selection Committee makes a recommendation to the Board.
Step 10: The Board of Directors makes a decision to approve or disapprove the applicant(s).
Step 11: The applicant(s) is notified of Board’s decision and (if approved) a Family Support contact is assigned.
Step 12: Applicant(s) begins the 250/500 “sweat equity” hours and attends the scheduled budget counseling course (if requested).
