COURT ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS: Elgin ReStore

  • Must serve a minimum of 50 hours
  • To get started, make an appointment to come into ReStore to complete paperwork and set up a schedule. You will not be starting on the day of the appointment.
    - For appointment, contact Lance Dailey, ReStore Volunteer Coordinator, at lance.dailey@habitatnfv.org, or call 847-742-9905 ext. 6
    - Provide a copy of your court order at the time of the appointment
    - Elgin ReStore is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm
    * Must serve at least 3 hours for scheduled time
  • If under 18, parent/legal guardian needs to attend the appointment time.
  • ReStore will provide a “Sign-In Sheet” to keep track of hours served. From this sheet, periodic reports will be submitted to the court.
  • Upon completion of hours, a letter on Elgin ReStore letterhead will be provided acknowledging the hours served (at least 50 hours must be served in order to get credit for any hours served.)
  • ReStore cannot use those serving court ordered hours for the following offenses:
    - Retail theft
    - Burglary
    - Assault / Battery
    - Domestic violence
    - Animal cruelty
    - Possession of drugs with intent to sell
    - Drug manufacturing

EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2015:

COURT ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS: Home Construction

  • May only serve a maximum of 50 hours
    - Court ordered community service volunteers wishing to serve more than 50 hours on construction sites must be approved through Lance at the ReStore.
    - Home Construction only serves as supplement in addition to ReStore for those needing to complete more than 50 hours.
  • Pre-registrstion is required
    - To get started, make an appointment to come to our affiliate office to complete required paperwork. You will not be starting on the day of the appointment.
    - For appointment, contact Jenny Ackerman, Volunteer & Outreach Manager, at  jenny.ackerman@habitatnfv.org, or call 847-836-1432
    - You must provide Habitat with a copy of your court order (in the event no court order is available, a letter from your attorney with the following details is required: hours needed, court ordering the service, deadline)
  • You must provide your own transportation to and from the job sites
  • Home Construction takes place on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 8:30am to 4:00pm
    - A full day of service is required each time you come out to complete your hours
  • Home Construction cannot use those serving court ordered hours for the following offenses:
    - Burglary
    - Assault / Battery
    - Domestic violence
  • You must be at least 16 years old to complete your hours with a parent/guardian present the entirety of your service, or 18 to complete your hours on your own.
  • At time of appointment, Jenny will provide a Service Hours Time Sheet

RECORD YOUR HOURS OR LOSE THEM!!

  • Bring the blue Service Hours Time Sheet with you each time you work
  • Have a Habitat representative sign-off each time you volunteer
  • Return your original blue time sheet(s) to our office for signature
  • No blue sheet, no hours, NO EXCEPTIONS
  • Upon completion of hours, a letter on Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley letterhead will be provided acknowledging the hours served. If court contact information is provided, Habitat will report your hours as recorded on the blue time sheet directly to the court.

Please Note: We regret that we will not be able to sign-off on court-ordered community service hours if you have not followed the pre-registration requirements.

If following our procedure is a problem, speak with your court services office, lawyer, or judge about opportunities to complete your hours elsewhere.

 

HOURS FOR SCHOOL REQUIREMENT: Home Constructcion

  • Contact the Volunteer & Outreach Manager to obtain a time-sheet to record your hours.
  • A signed time sheet will be required for anyone needing a letter of confirmation of service.
  • Completed hours sheets may be sent to Jenny via email at jenny.ackerman@habitatnfv.org, faxed to 847-695-5912, or dropped off at our affiliate office.
