For Homeowners

    Homeowner Spotlight

Janelle Mathisen (pictured left) is the family partner of the home located at 221 Orange Street in Elgin. Born and raised in Elgin, Janelle is the mother of Benson, who is almost 2. When Benson was born, he had two holes in his heart and needed open heart surgery. He has since had the surgery and is doing fine. However, during this time, Janelle has been living with her parents.

Janelle applied for a Habitat home in 2012 with the hope of being able to find stable, secure housing to raise her son. After being accepted to the program, she was matched to the property on Orange Street.

Janelle has a presence at every Saturday build day, taking part in the transformation of this house from day one, and even stopping in to visit volunteers on her way to and from working as a CNA on the days she could not build. She has been touched by the process and the people who contributed their time and talents to reconstruct this home.

    Janelle's House Blessing

On Sunday, March 9, volunteers, partner families, sponsors, project directors and of course Janelle's family meet at her home on Orange to bless her new home.  Great time to reflect on the tranfomation of another Elgin home.

    Building Together

Our mission is more than building a home, it's building a future for a family.  Regardless of your experience using a hammer, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley offers many opportunities for you to get involved as an individual, a group, or as a corporation.

    Volunteering Needs

While most of us are aware of the personal impact of this brutal winter, it has hurt HFHNFV too. We have multiple homes in progress and multiple partner families with plans to move into one of our homes, some with leases about to expire. When choosing which site to work on, please consider the below 4 sites first. We build every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 8:30am to 4:00pm.

    Donor Spotlight

2014 Walk-A-Thon at Spring Hill Mall

It's not often we get to honor our local teens (our job sites are limited to 18 and up, 16 with an adult) but once a year the local youth community gets together to walk at Spring Hill Mall and donates the proceeds to support our mission.  Stay tuned to see which group was this year's money raising champion.  But in the mean time here are some shots of another successful Walk. You'll see the teens, a partner family, and of course our dedicated volunteers.  We are also very thankful to Jewel, Deans foods, and the New Toll House Cafe in the Mall and the Hosanna/Heavenly Food ministry.
